Low confidence forecast, mainly unsettled, perhaps better at the end. The weather is still in one of those difficult phases!
The overall evolution of the weather systems is in focus at the moment, but unfortunately applying the detail to those forecasts is still proving to be rather difficult.
An example of this occurs around Christmas. We expect low pressure west of the country, with high pressure to the east. Between these tow areas is the British isles. With weather fronts moving eastwards we are all likely to see rain. However, it wouldn't take much for the weather to turn much colder, the rain to become heavier and possible turn to snow. However, we do not think this will happen.
Generally it looks set to be an unsettled four weeks. We do not expect prolonged cold periods, although some fog and frost will be experienced in most places at some time.
The most settled spell of weather is likely towards the end of the period when high pressure may build from the south.
