An autumnal end to the summer
Both the predicted flow pattern and the global models currently indicate a very unsettled period. In fact, they both highlight quite an autumnal end to the summer!
Low pressure will be in control for much of the period. Winds will be generally from the west or southwest quarter, then turning northwesterly. Often quite windy with periods of rain or bands of showery rain. Any direr spells short lived.
There will be occasions when high pressure will build close to the British Isles although the effect will often be transient in nature. The greatest influence of the high across southern England and Wales.
The beginning to middle of September will most likely see high pressure to the southwest for a time, this building across the extreme south of England. Most areas seeing southwest to west winds. There is a hint that the middle of September may see a brief anticyclonic spell. Overall though, the emphasis remains on the worst of the west in the north and west of the UK and Ireland.
