Colder for a time. Wintry mid February?
The current pattern still remains good, as out predicted mid-late January pressure build has taken place and is responsible for the interlude of much more traditional winter conditions during the week ahead.
A more Atlantic feel to the pattern should develop during the first week of February, with somewhat milder conditions for all, with low pressure taking control of the pattern.
Although the beginning of February may be mixed, there area indications that the middle of the month should see the weather become more settled, although colder through all areas.
An anticyclone building through the UK looks set to dominate the pattern in some form for the remainder of the month. Initially over the UK and Ireland the main centre will shift to the east around the beginning of the third week before declining away and being replaced by another strong cell of high pressure to the north or northwest.
Ow pressure should be kept well to the west or southwest for much of the period, only SW England, western and NW areas as well as the whole of Ireland may see cloudy weather and showery rain at times through this period.
Around the 21st to 23rd there are hints that southern England will see an increasing E-SE breeze with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow as low pressure breaks through the southern flank of the high pressure, moving into the near Continent. Northern areas should stay fine and settled.
