Generally cool and changeable at first, remaining so through the first few days of May although becoming drier and warmer through southern areas of the British Isles. Drier and more settled through all areas for a time mid-May, a return to unsettled and more changeable conditions expected later, some drier and warmer weather expected at the end of May.

Low pressure will remain a dominant and slow moving feature close to the British Isles during the short-term period. High pressure is then anticipated to build through the country with a spell of fine, settled and much warmer weather likely through all areas mid-month. A spell of cooler and fresher weather spreading through all areas will see temperatures returning to closer to the seasonal average. As we approach the end of May high pressure looks likely to be building back with fine, settled and much warmer conditions likely across all areas.
