The Month Ahead
30 Day Outlook December

In line with previous forecasts and the global models, the immediate prospects for the beginning of December do indicate that anticyclonic tendencies will have the upper hand. How long and extensive these tendencies will become is yet t be seen, but on the present evidence a protracted spells of anyticyclonic weather is probable.

Initially bright and sunny conditions have a tendency to become cloudier and gloomy as mist and fog become more extensive and slow to clear. Temperatures struggling during the day where it does so. Cold at night under clearer skies and possible freezing fog.

The high pressure conditions look set to continue into the second week, although by the end of the period a more unsettled regime is probable as high pressure declines away and low pressure takes control. Milder too mid-month as Atlantic influences push across all districts, with rain, cloud and windier weather in all areas.

How long the Atlantic flow will persist is debatable and uncertain at the moment. However, our pattern does indicate that high pressure may well reassert itself by the end of the third week, this time the anticyclone taking up station to the north or northwest. A colder NE flow may develop.

Over the Christmas Holiday periods, low pressure may bring a milder and wetter spell, although some pre-Christmas wintry weather cannot be ruled out should this scenario develop.

The end of the month indicates an increasing anticyclonic influence possibly south east to easterly at the very end so turning colder.
