Updated Monday 1st August. Valid Tuesday 2nd August 2005 to Wednesday 31st August.

Changeable

The anticipated change to a more changeable and mixed flow seems to be well underway now. High pressure is taking up it's more usual position over the Azores, with ridges extending from it over southern England, Wales and Ireland.

The immediate outlook is for this general pattern to continue. This will push drier weather into the south, with Scotland and Northern Ireland always prone to bands of rain moving in from the Atlantic.

Into the mid-August period we do believe that a more widespread, unsettled spell of weather is likely, perhaps even feeling quite unseasonal, with wet and windy weather at times.

By the latter stages of August our forecast pattern starts to look more promising. High pressure should build back through the UK and Ireland, so perhaps a return to summer-like weather for all areas. There may be some erosion across the northern half of the UK and Ireland as we enter the final stages of the month with a more southwest flow bringing cloud and rain here.

The Bank Holiday period may start off warm, but then thundery showers spread from the southwest with all places then unsettled and wet for a time.
