WARSAW - Violent winds, hail and rain lashed the southern Polish city of Krakow late on Wednesday, killing one woman and injuring five people as well as damaging a historic building, Polish public radio said Thursday.
The woman was severely injured when a tree fell on her car, and later died in hospital. The thunderstorm with torrential rain ripped off part of the attic of the city's 16th century Sukiennice covered market for cloth and fabric that now sells souvenirs for tourists. The attic, upon which a billboard had been attached, fell to the ground and broke into pieces. A city official told Polish public radio they would seek to have the owner of the buildboard pay to restore the Renaissance building.
