Storm hit Southwest and Wales
Flooding and transport chaos

Up to two inches of rain and gale force winds lashed southern England and Wales overnight. A woman was found dead in an upturned car in a rain-swollen river in Devon and a man travelling with her was washed away. British Environment Chiefs issued 140 flood warnings and Emergency services struggled to fight flooding and rescue endangered people. 30 people had to be evacuated by helicopters from a flooded caravan park in Devon and in the southwest the storm caused transport chaos. Two major roads to Wales were closed and high winds forced the closure of the major Severn Crossing near Bristol.
