Review 2000
Global temperatures above average

Average global surface temperatures were much warmer than normal in 2000. NOAA expects the global temperatures to be 0.4 degrees C (0.7 F) above the 120-year average. Global temperature is similar to the observations of 1999, but the only years warmer were 1998, 1997, 1995 and 1990, NOAA says. Check WeatherOnline's Weather History to have a review on the weather of your region yourself.

Canada, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe were the warmest above average places and only Australia experienced below normal temperatures. Global precipitation, you might have already guessed this, was much above the long-term average in 2000. Unfortunately global precipitation patterns are not very uniform and as Britain was flooded, many other areas of the world experienced devastating drought in 2000. However, climatologists estimate that 2000 will end as one of the ten wettest years on record.
