The last morning of the year 2000 will start bright and cold with temperatures well below zero, but soon the first thin clouds will begin to cast the skies and some light snow might fall here and there, later it will turn into rain. The light snow and rain will have reached the Southwest and Wales by noon and will spread across the entire UK by Sunday night. Wind veering to southerly directions will become very breezy as the rain becomes prolonged. Temperatures will rise to almost 10C/50F and above - a real change of weather!
The year 2001 will start as most of the last third of 2000 was: wet and windy, but mild. However, it might be exaggerated, but we are a little bit concerned about the massive and complex low-pressure system developing over the central Atlantic. There is a possibility, however slight, that it (1) could speed up towards Europe itself or (2) trigger a fast moving, small but powerful marginal depression with high-speed winds and lots of rain. Thus - if you have to drive on Monday or Thursday - you should keep an eye on this thing. Our wind forecast-maps will help you doing this.
