January Heatwaves II
Record smashed

by Philip Eden

Last Sunday (January 26) the UK's all-time January temperature record of 18.3C was equalled at Aboyne in Aberdeenshire thanks to a dramatic foehn effect as a westerly airflow brought tropical maritime air to all parts of the country. The previous Scottish record of 16.7C was smashed out of sight. Other notable highs reported on Sunday included 17.2C at Aberdeen airport, 17.1C at Worcester, 16.0C at Tain Range, and 15.9C at Hawarden.
