80mph Winds in Scotland
Northwestern parts of Scotland should be prepared for some very strong winds this evening, with gusts possibly to a damaging 80mph.
Low pressure centred to the south of Iceland is going to force an area of rain eastwards, reaching western coasts late this afternoon. As the rain arrives the winds will be increasing, quickly becoming gale force.
The strongest winds then affect the Western Isles and northwest Highland region until midnight, then transferring through the rest of Scotland during the course of the night. Northern areas will always be at risk from the strongest wind.
80mph gusts are strong enough to cause some damage to buildings, power cables etc...so you will need to take care.
Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining!
Simon
