Snow on the way for Scotland

Forecasters at the Weatheronline Weather Centre have been monitoring the possibility of wintry weather affecting the British isles and Ireland this weekend.

Our latest conclusions are that the snow risk now looks like being confined to Scotland and parts of northeast England.

The highest chance of significant snowfall is definitely reserved for Scotland. Highland region, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Pert & Kinross and Angus look likely to be particularly affected. The snow may be persistent through Saturday, and combined with a strong north to northwest wind, there is a risk of blizzards in the mountains.

If you are planning on walking or climbing in Scotland this weekend, do be aware that conditions will be very wintry. The higher ground of northern England and Wales are also at risk from snow showers, although these probably not as extreme as over Scotland.

For the rest of the UK and Ireland it is going to be feeling colder, although for many places it is going to be a pleasant weekend.

It will be frosty on Saturday morning, with the more severe frost reserved for Sunday morning.
