Is it really May ?

It doesn’t feel like it does it? Last night was another cold one, with a widespread ground frost in many places. IN fact Shawbury, in Shropshire, saw temperatures down to -6C.

And it looks as if we are likely to have another widespread frost tonight, both in the air, and on the ground. But what of the coming days?

Well, the high pressure area is expected to be staying with us for the next couple of days. Although bringing cold nights, the high should bring some good spells of sunshine.

It’s to the south that we need to look for a change in the weather. Low pressure is hinted to be deepening and moving into the Bay of Biscay through Friday. The effect of this low moving northwards will be to bringing strong winds and push an area of rain across England and Wales during the weekend. Those winds could well gust to near gale force in the Channel.

Good news for Scotland, because as the low moves into the south, high pressure will be pushed into northern Scotland so it is here where there will be some good spells of sunshine.

However, I should stress that my confidence in the idea of the low moving north this weekend is fairly low. I’m not sure how far north rain will come. I still favour the idea of the rain into southern England, and perhaps turning heavy, but staying dry for many other areas. I’ll have more about this tomorrow.

Whatever the weather keep the sun shining!
