Colder Conditions Ahead

After the relatively mild conditions of the autumn so far, the cooler weather of the past few days has certainly been a bit of a shock to the system, and we are now heading rapidly towards winter proper. As always Weatheronline will be keeping you updated throughout.

A major change in weather type is set to take place this week, and one that will leave many of us in no doubt that we are now in the first stages of winter. The change will be subtle early in the new week, but by Wednesday, we'll all certainly be noticing the difference.

During the course of Monday night a cold front will move southeast through the UK and Ireland. This will introduce slightly cooler northwest winds. As the low responsible for the front moves into northern Norway, the winds will be turning northerly, allowing much cooler weather to stream south through the country.

This colder, northerly blast stays with us for the rest of the week, before the next change takes place towards next weekend. High pressure starts to build north of Scotland, with low pressure to the south, bringing a cool easterly flow to many.

At this stage I think it will be Scotland and northern England that bear the brunt of the colder conditions, but a slight change in positioning of the low may bring the much colder weather through the rest of the British Isles too.

Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining!
