A wet Sunday

The Weatheronline Weather Centre is keeping a close eye on events across Ireland, Scotland, northwest England and Wales today.

A large area of low pressure, many miles away to the south of Iceland, has an active set of fronts associated with it. These have been pushing eastwards across western areas during last night and this morning bringing some heavy rain. Valentia in southwest Ireland recorded 19mm of rain in the six hours to 7am this morning.

This rain is transferring eastwards, and is likely to be bringing more heavy rain for Ireland today. It then moves through western Scotland and the northwest of England during this afternoon and tonight, with the west of Wales always prone to the heavy rain.

So, if youi are going to be travelling in these areas today and tonight, do take care. There could be plenty of surface water on the roads and pavements, bringing the obvious risk of spray and reduced visibility.

Whatever happens, keep the sun shining.
