Large hail and flooding...Sunday soaking!
Well, what a day Sunday was. Soaring temperatures, followed by huge thunderstorms which damaging lightning, large hail and flooding all reported.
Rainfall of 42mm fell in Hawarden in North Wales, and reports of 45mm at Chester race course. Rainfall totals must have been greater than this over parts of the Pennines and North York Moors as thunderstorms passed through yesterday afternoon.
These storms brought flooding to much of North Yorkshire, with people fleeing their homes as rivers burst their banks and waters rose rapidly.
Large hail was reported from much of the Midlands, with 7mm diameter in Dudley and one correspondent has reported hail as large as 50mm in diameter in Wollaston, Stourbridge.
The storms have abated now, but there may be more on Thursday.
Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining.
Simon
