Local flooding in places
We're currently monitoring and area of thunderstorms and heavy rain, passing through the Midlands and into the northwest of England. The heavy rain has already affected Wales and southwest England.
As the rain moves northeastwards it will be staying heavy, with as much as 20 to 30mm of rain over much of the north of England.
This first period of heavy rain is probably going to be fading away for a time, but then a second area of rain will be spreading from the southwest, bringing more rain through southwest England, Wales, the Midlands and northern England.
Much of the far southeast of England, and East Anglia, are expected to be staying dry and very hot through the day, although isolated thunderstorms could develop here.
If you are travelling in the north or west today, do take care as there is a risk of flash flooding.
