Risk of heavy rain, some local flooding
Another warm day over much of England and Wales, but things are about to change.
There are thundery showers off Ireland and the southwest of England through this morning. Indications are that there will be thunderstorms moving through Wales this afternoon ,bringing an inch of rain in places. The rain edges through southwest England too and moves along southern coasts.
At the same time, more scattered thunderstorms may be forming in the Midlands and southeast England, these bringing localised torrential downpours.
I'm then expecting another band of more persistent, thundery rain to pass into northern England, the Midlands and much of southeast England during the late part of this evening. Overnight this may become heavy through the north of England, eastern Midlands and East Anglia, perhaps giving some torrential local downpours in excess of an inch.
I should stress that the confidence in the forecast is low, and so the best way to monitor developments is to keep an eye on Weatheronline. You can see radar pictures (updated every 15 minutes) here, or track the latest lightning strikes here.
We better then get ready for a more unsettled weekend. Low pressure in control, with stronger winds, rain and showers. Feeling much cooler too, with the most unsettled conditions to the west and north.
Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining!
Simon
