Rain, rain and more rain

Well, we said that it was need...and we certainly got it! The last 24 hours have been wet through much of England and Wales.

Until 7 o'clock this morning, Milford Haven recorded a whopping 58mm of rain, with 50m of this falling in the six hours since midnight. Other notable 24 hour readings include 33mm at Aberporth (near Aberystwyth) and 22mm in Plymouth. You can view the latest rainfall here.

As I write this morning, the heavy rain is starting to move into eastern Ireland and the Isle of Man, with another batch moving into the southern Pennines area. This morning and this afternoon sees the heavy rain continuing over the southern and eastern Pennines where there could be a further inch of rain. Northern and eastern Ireland also see heavy rain with over an inch possible here.

On Friday the rain is expected to get stuck over Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland, before returning southwards over the weekend. Once again it will be northern England that sees most of it.

Despite the rain, keep the sun shining!
Simon
