Rain sweeping east today

Significant falls of rain are expected through the British Isles and Ireland during the course of Wednesday.

As I type, rainfall is pouring into Ireland and this will be bringing around 10 to 15mm of rain into western Scotland and western Ireland by midday.

The rain continues to march eastwards into this evening, reaching most of Scotland, northern England, the Midlands and central southern England, with 10 to 15mm again for the west coasts of Wales, England and Scotland by then.

Overnight the rain moves into eastern and southern England with 5 to 10mm for much of East Anglia and the southeast.

Clear skies will form behind the rain and these will allow temperatures to fall quickly. A touch of ground frost is possible through the Midlands and eastern Wales.

Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining!
