Where's the rain?

After a dry January, water companies are this morning warning of the shortage of water in reservoirs. So is this situation going to get better in the next week or so?

Well, indications are that it isn't. The dry weather is being caused by a large area of high pressure which has been over the British Isles for almost ten days now. It's not moving far and is virtually stuck over the top of Ireland and the UK.

I can't see the high breaking at the moment and so for the next week or so the dry weather will be continuing. I've a suspicion that we may be in for a cold snap, perhaps with snow, before the westerly winds return during the middle of February.

Of course, I'll keep you updated.

Have a wonderful New Year and keep the sun shining!
Simon
