Batten down the hatches, it will become windy

I'm keeping my eye on an area of low pressure which is developing just east of Newfoundland at the moment. This is going to be spinning itself up and will deepen as it moves slowly east.

Although for most of the UK and Ireland Tuesday should be a fine day, there will be a dramatic change taking place overnight into Wednesday. Winds will be increasing through all places, with a risk of some widespread gales through England, Wales and Ireland into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The winds may well gust to 60mph in exposed places such as southern Ireland and the coasts of southwest England.

Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining!
