Hurricane Erin
Slightly dissipating, but...

Hurricane Erin passed the Bermudas heading into the open Atlantic today. Erin is the fifth named tropical storm this hurricane season, but the first reaching the status of a hurricane. See a satellite image sequence of Hurricane Erin here.

Sustained wind speeds of 189 kph (120 mph) and peak winds up to 234 kph (145 mph) classify Erin to a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. At the moment Erin is heading towards north-northwest with a speed of about 20 kph (mph).

Although the storm is likely to weaken over the next few days the storm could still hit the Canadian Atlantic coast.
