Monday 03/05/04 to Tuesday 04/05/04
The weather will remain rather unsettled on Monday, with a cool north-westerly flow. Outbreaks of rain will affect much of England and Wales, particularly heavy across southern parts with the risk of thunder in places. Rain will also affect a good part of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland for a time, but this will be replaced by brighter skies and heavy showers during the afternoon. The wind will be strongest in north-western parts, so feeling especially cool for the time of year here. Conditions will remain as unsettled, if not more so on Tuesday, as low pressure sits right over the UK. Bands of rain are expected to meander their way around the low centre, giving many parts of the country another very wet day. Indeed, some of the rain across western and southern parts may be heavy enough to produce local flooding. If any brightness does develop in northern parts, heavy showers will be sparked off, again with the risk of thunder. Rather cool everywhere.
Wednesday 05/05/04 to Thursday 06/05/04
On Wednesday, the north-westerly wind looks set to turn more northerly, making conditions feel particularly cool. With strong to possibly gale force winds in the north-west, parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland will even feel "cold", with the risk of wintry showers over the highest ground. There will be some sunny spells here however, although it will be a different story across Ireland, Wales and much of England. Overcast skies here will give further outbreaks of heavy rain, with the risk of local flooding increasing yet further. The northerly flow will continue into Thursday, although it shouldn't be as strong. As a result, Scotland and Northern Ireland will feel slightly less cold. Nevertheless, the weather across much of the UK will remain very unsettled, with no sign of summer. There will be some sunshine to be had, especially out towards the west, but even here showers will develop or drift down from the north. Eastern and southern parts of England may well hang on to more persistent rain.
Friday 07/05/04 to Saturday 08/05/04
On Friday, the winds will remain largely in the north or north-east, so most places will remain rather cool. That said, where the sun does appear across southern parts, it should feel pleasant enough. In fact, most places should see at least a few sunny spells, but there will also be the risk of scattered showers. These will be most frequent and heavy across central and eastern parts of England, where they may turn thundery. The best of any drier weather will be across Ireland and south-west Scotland. There are indications at the moment that things will slowly begin to get warmer during Saturday, as winds switch round to a more south-westerly direction. This will be preceded by another band of fairly heavy rain however, sweeping in from the south-west across most parts during the day. Behind this it will brighten up, but with a scattering of showers later.
