Thursday 08/04/04 to Friday 09/04/04
Much of the UK will remain unsettled on Thursday, although central and southern parts will start off mostly dry with some sunny spells. Scattered showers across Scotland and north-east England will become more frequent and spread southwards during the day, affecting much of northern England, north Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia. Northern Ireland and Ireland will become mostly dry after early showers, with sunny spells, but it will feel cold with a stiff northerly breeze across the UK. Apart from one or two coastal showers, much of Ireland and Northern Ireland will have another dry day on Friday, with some good sunny spells. Western parts of the mainland UK will also be mostly dry and bright, but heavy showers will develop across Scotland, north-east England, the Midlands and south-east England during the afternoon, with the risk of hail, and falling as snow over the Scottish highlands. Staying cold with a brisk northerly wind.

Saturday 10/04/04 to Sunday 11/04/04
With high pressure in the Atlantic to the west of Ireland, and low pressure in the North Sea, a cold northerly flow is expected to continue across most parts on Saturday. This will mean that many western parts will stay mostly dry with some decent sunny spells. However, showers will keep going in central and eastern areas, and across much of Scotland, again heavy at times and merging to give longer spells of rain later. Snow will continue to fall across northern mountains. Weather patterns are suggesting that there will be little change even into Easter Sunday, with northerly winds continuing to feed showers, some wintry down North Sea coasts, and across northern parts. Ireland will once again be largely dry and bright, being nearer to the centre of Atlantic high pressure. It will be rather chilly overnight in many central parts, perhaps with a touch of ground frost.

Monday 12/04/04 to Tuesday 13/04/04
Although conditions will remain largely unchanged into Monday, the northerly wind should ease and become more north-westerly. This means that many of the showers in the east will die away, becoming restricted to northern parts of Scotland through the afternoon. Many parts will then have a bright day with sunny spells, again the best of these across Ireland and Northern Ireland. Tuesday looks like bringing something of a change across the UK, with north-westerly winds dragging overcast skies and outbreaks of rain across most places during the day. The rain will be heavy at times, especially across Northern Ireland and Scotland, where gales may develop. The south will see the best of any brightness, with even some sunny spells in the south-east at first. Please check back for further long range updates.
