Please note that forecasting beyond five days is notoriously difficult, and small errors at short-range can lead to large deviations further in time. Friday 08/10/04 to Saturday 09/10/04
On Friday, high pressure will be affecting the UK in one way or another, although not all places will benefit. Most of England and Wales will be dry with sunny spells, although some eastern coasts will have a lot of cloud. Across eastern Scotland, there may even be some early rain, but the west should be dry and sunny. Scattered heavy showers will affect parts of Ireland during the morning, but thereafter the whole of Ireland will become mostly dry with some sunshine. Overnight, it will become rather chilly in light winds, with the potential for frost almost anywhere, but particularly across Scotland. After a crisp start to Saturday, much of Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland will have a fine day with lots of sunshine. The same is true across central and northern England, together with Wales. However, easterly winds will be quite strong across southern parts of England, and cloud will thicken here through the afternoon.

Sunday 10/10/04 to Monday 11/10/04
The weather will go sharply downhill across central and southern England, Wales and southern parts of Ireland on Sunday, as low pressure moves up from the south. Together with fresh southeast winds, there will be plenty of heavy rain, perhaps with thunder and the risk of local flooding. Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland will escape dry once again, as high pressure here continues to give some sunshine after a frosty start. By Monday morning, this rain will have reached northern Scotland, and then the whole of the UK and Ireland can expect a wet and windy day. It will also feel rather cool, especially in the wind, and as the rain continues across Wales and south-west England through the afternoon, flooding cannot be ruled out. However, more detail on this potential risk will be given in the next forecast update. During Monday afternoon some brighter skies may begin to push into central and south-eastern England.

Tuesday 12/10/04 to Wednesday 13/10/04
From Tuesday onwards, the detail is rather uncertain. However, there are indications that the low pressure will move into the North Sea, allowing a moderate northerly wind to drift across most of the country. The best of any sunshine will be across parts of Ireland, Northern Ireland and southwest England, as elsewhere there will still be a lot of cloud. Showery rain will also continue in places, especially towards the east coast of England and Scotland. We are expecting high pressure to build back in from the west through Wednesday, giving bright or sunny spells across much of the UK and Ireland. However, the cloud will tend to thicken up across northern Scotland, and there is the risk of rain here during the afternoon. Light winds, except for the north.
