Monday 10/05/04 to Tuesday 11/05/04
After a spell weather more suited to Autumn this week, next week is currently looking much more settled. On Monday, many places can expect some drier conditions, with a few bright or sunny spells. That said, many northern and eastern parts of both Scotland and England will be rather cloudy, with the risk of light rain. Western parts of England and Wales, together with Ireland will see the best of any brightness, but even here there will be some showers. Not feeling to cool however, with only a light northerly breeze. By Tuesday, the northerly flow is expected to continue, and this will feed low cloud and mist onto North Sea coasts. Elsewhere however, there will be some sunny spells, especially across western parts of the UK mainland, and much of Ireland. However, with low pressure never far away, showers will develop almost anywhere, perhaps heavy at times. Temperatures will be around average, perhaps a little above in southern Britain.
Wednesday 12/05/04 to Thursday 13/05/04
Wednesday is currently the critical day with respect to the rest of the week, as it will dictate whether or not conditions become more summer-like. At present, it looks as if high pressure will build in from the south-west, giving mostly dry and fine conditions across Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and south-western parts of England. Elsewhere, a northerly wind will allow showers to develop, heavy at times in parts of south-east England. Assuming that the high pressure becomes the dominant force in the UK weather, Thursday will be much more settled with long sunny spells for many. Once again, the best of the sunshine will be across western parts of the country, always with more cloud around in eastern parts. Temperatures will be on the rise, especially in eastern parts where it will have been chilly in the northerly breeze.
Friday 14/05/04 to Saturday 15/05/04
On Friday, summer may well and truely have arrived with high pressure influencing the weather right across the UK. Early mist or fog patches will slowly clear from central parts, then most places can expect a dry, sunny day. With light winds, it will feel pleasantly warm, although the south-westerly breeze will pick up across southern parts of Ireland in the afternoon. The fine and settled weather will remain across most parts on Saturday, and with a southerly breeze temperatures will lift considerably once any morning fog has cleared. Across Ireland and Northern Ireland however, the winds will increase bringing thicker cloud by evening, with the risk of scattered thundery showers.
