Please note that forecasting beyond five days is notoriously difficult, and small errors at short-range can lead to large deviations further in time. Our longer-range forecasts are based on the most accurate weather data available at the time, but alterations may be required as the period progresses. Please check back regularly for the most up-to-date forecast run.

Sunday 10/10/04 to Monday 11/10/04
Sunday will be a north-south split across the UK. High pressure will give Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England another fine, sunny day, after a chilly start. The weather should stay bright too across the north Midlands, north Wales and northern parts of the Irish Republic as well. However, a deepening depression near south-west England will give strong easterly winds across southern England, south Wales and southern parts of Ireland, with outbreaks of heavy rain at times. On Monday, the area of low pressure will nudge slowly northwards, taking its rain across most of England, Wales and Ireland during the day. East or southeast winds will be strong to gale force through the English Channel at times too. Only Scotland will escape with a mostly dry and bright day, although even here the winds will be increasing.

Tuesday 12/10/04 to Wednesday 13/10/04
Outbreaks of rain will continue to affect much of England and Wales on Tuesday, although it will slowly move away to the east. Rain will also affect Scotland, and will do so throughout the day. Out to the west, across Ireland and Northern Ireland, brighter skies with sunshine and scattered showers will move in, and these will transfer to western parts of the UK mainland during the afternoon. Winds will be lighter in general across the country. On Wednesday, a ridge of high pressure will begin to build in from the west, giving most of Ireland, Wales and western parts of England a dry day with sunny spells. However, cloud will still affect parts of eastern England and eastern Scotland, with the risk of showers developing in brisk northerly winds. However, even these will die away later.

Thursday 14/10/04 to Friday 15/10/04
High pressure is expected to drift across southern parts on Thursday, although the exact track is uncertain. However, southern parts of England, Wales and Ireland should have a dry day, with light winds and some warm spells of sunshine. North Wales and the Midlands should stay dry, but rather cloudy. Very unsettled further north, with strong westerly wind and outbreaks of heavy rain, especially over the high ground. There will be little change on Friday, as cloud continues to steam across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, with some heavy rain and brisk winds. The best of the weather will again be across southern parts of the country, with some sunshine here. Please check back for further forecast updates for next week and beyond.
