Tuesday 13/04/04 to Wednesday 14/04/04
The blocked northerly flow of the last week is expected to have broken down by Tuesday, with most parts in a west to north-westerly airflow. A band of weakening cloud and rain is expected to spread eastwards across much of England and Wales, but southern parts will probably remain mostly dry and bright. Outbreaks of heavier rain will spread across much of Ireland and Scotland during the day, followed by sunshine and blustery showers. Mild in the south, becoming cooler in the north after a mild start. On Wednesday another band of showery rain will spread across many places from the north-west, and some of this is expected to be rather heavy. Much of southern and eastern England will be mostly dry until evening however, with sunny spells, and later in the day Ireland and Northern Ireland will also brighten up. Temperatures should be around average for the time of year, but feeling cooler in a brisk westerly wind.
Thursday 15/04/04 to Friday 16/04/04
Winds will become lighter across many parts by Thursday, and most places will see some sunny spells. There will be rather a lot of cloud around however, and during the afternoon scattered showers will break-out. Some of the showers will be heavy and slow moving, although the hit-and-miss nature of these means many places should remain dry. Feeling pleasant in the light winds, where the sunny spells persist. On Friday, England and Wales will have another mostly dry day with some sunshine, but once again heavy, slow-moving showers will break-out in one or two spots. The winds will freshen across Ireland, Northern Ireland and much of Scotland, together with thickening cloud. Outbreaks of rain will spread slowly from the west during the afternoon, although some eastern parts of Scotland will remain largely dry. Feeling mild in the south and east, but becoming cooler in the west with the freshening wind.
Saturday 17/04/04 to Sunday 18/04/04
Saturday will be a thoroughly wet day across much of Scotland and northern England, with some heavy outbreaks of rain. An easterly wind will progressively strengthen throughout the day, making it feel rather cool here, especially on eastern coasts. Northern Ireland and Ireland will also have showery rain, although it should peter out during the afternoon. England and Wales will have sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud, although the odd shower may develop even here. Once any early rain clears from western parts on Sunday morning, many places will have a drier day with some sunny spells. Winds will ease once again, although will be coming from an easterly direction so it will never feel overly mild. Next week is currently looking unsettled, but potentially turning warmer during the second part of the week. As ever, please check back for more detailed long-range forecasts for this period.
