Weekly Outlook : 09/05/03-15/05/03
Frequent Showers N&W, Brighter S&E. Turning Cooler

Friday 09/04/03 to Sunday 11/05/03
During Friday, much of England and Wales, along with eastern Scotland will have a largely dry day, with long sunny spells and light winds. This will allow top temperatures to reach between 15°C and 17°C. The rest of Scotland, Northern England and much of Ireland will see bright spells and heavy, blustery showers. Some will be thundery, and it will be very gusty in and around the heaviest showers. Highs here reaching 10°C and 13°C, feeler cooler in the wind. Overnight and into Saturday, showers will continue in the north and west, but at the same time fronts will skirt parts of southern England. These will result in a good deal of cloud and some patchy rain, although it will remain brighter across central England and Wales. Staying windy in the north and west into Sunday with plenty of heavy, squally showers. Cloud and rain will clear eastern parts in the morning, following by sunshine and scattered showers across other parts. Mild in the south.

Monday 12/05/03 to Tuesday 13/05/03
The unsettled theme continuing, with heavy showers becoming widespread in the north and west on Monday. Once again, some will be thundery and winds will gust to gale force in the heaviest downpours. Scattered showers elsewhere, but generally drier and sunnier further south and east in lighter winds. By Tuesday, winds will switch to a cooler north-westerly as a band of showers crosses south-east across all parts. Behind this band, the north and west will see further heavy showers, possibly wintry over high ground. Southern and eastern parts will turn drier with sunny spells once early showers clear, but feeling much cooler.

Wednesday 14/05/03 to Thursday 15/05/03
Confidence is high that this north-westerly flow will become established during Wednesday, so it will feel much cooler everywhere. Most of the showers, wintry in nature across higher ground will run across northern Scotland and Northern Ireland. Plenty of sunny spells and only scattered showers elsewhere once early cloud and patchy rain clears from south-eastern parts. Thursday will see similar conditions, although more organised bands of rain may reach the north-west by evening.
