Friday 10/10/03 to Saturday 11/10/03
A stormy day to come across Scotland during Friday, with gale force winds buffeting more northern parts. Gusts of winds are expected to exceed 60mph in places. These will be accompanied by squally showers, with hail and thunder. For southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England, it will also be windy but mostly dry. Central and later southern parts of England and Wales will be rather cloudy with occasional rain, most persistent in the west. Overnight, this cloud will become confined to south-western parts. Winds will ease in the north, and by Saturday morning they will fall light as a ridge of high pressure spreads across the country. Much of Scotland, and Northern and Eastern England will be dry with sunny spells. Southern and western parts of England, along with much of Ireland will be rather cloudy, with spots of rain, especially in the west. Temperatures above average across England and Wales, about normal for the time of year elsewhere.
Sunday 12/10/03 to Monday 13/10/03
High pressure will push into the North Sea on Sunday, with fresh south to south-easterly winds developing in southern and western parts. Most places will be dry with sunshine, although Northern Ireland and Scotland will be rather more cloudy with the odd spot of light rain and drizzle, more especially over the hills. Remaining dry elsewhere into the evening, and turning chilly overnight with a touch of frost in places. South-easterly winds will increase across the south during Monday, so it will begin to feel rather chilly here. Everywhere will have another dry and bright day however, with plenty of Autumn sunshine and temperatures around average for the time of year. Cloud is expected to thicken across southern England during the evening and on Monday night, threatening rain later.
Tuesday 14/10/03 to Thursday 16/10/03
High pressure is expected to become established over the North Sea and Scandinavia during the middle of the week, keeping many northern and eastern parts of the UK dry and settled with plenty of sunshine. Weather fronts in the west on Tuesday will keep conditions rather more cloudy across Ireland and Northern Ireland, flirting with western Scotland later. This scenario is expected to last through Wednesday and into Thursday, with cloud and scattered outbreaks of rain in western parts, dry with sunny spells in the east. Southern parts may see a band of rain spreading from the south-east on Thursday evening however. Winds will be fresh across southern and western parts, so feeling chilly.
