Monday 11/08/03 to Tuesday 12/08/03
A lively start across many south-eastern parts of England, including East Anglia, as well as parts of the Midlands and North Wales, with thunderstorms continuing and developing. There will be some torrential downpours at times, with hail possible. There is the chance of showers developing anywhere south of the Wash to the Isle Of Wight during the afternoon, as temperatures reach 30 Celsius once more. For the rest of the country, including Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland, sunny spells and fresher temperatures in the low 20's Celsius, as high pressure builds. Overnight, storms will remain in the south-east, but dry and cooler elsewhere. By dawn on Tuesday the last of the showers will clear away, and then most parts will be dry with sunny spells. Rather more cloud around than of late, but with temperatures in the low to mid 20's Celsius, a welcome relief for all! Showers will develop in NW Scotland during the afternoon, but this will be the exception to a bright, sunny day.
Wednesday 13/08/03 to Thursday 14/08/03
High pressure generally in charge across the UK on Wednesday, but as the winds swing around to the north-west a weak front is expected to move south-eastwards across the UK. This will mainly bring an increase in cloud, but light rain is possible in northern and eastern parts. Remaining sunny and warm across southern parts, but turning a little cooler still across north-western parts. During the night, the front will slip into southern parts, by now very weak indeed. Into Thursday many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland will be bright and dry, this weather extending south to all parts after a cloudy morning in southern England. Becoming warm in the south-west during the afternoon, but later in the day cloud is expected to increase across western Ireland, heralding rain later.
Friday 15/08/03 to Saturday 16/08/03
During Friday, much of mainland UK will be dry and bright, and rather warm in the south. However, much of Ireland and Northern Ireland will be undergoing a change as weather fronts spread in off the Atlantic. These will bring cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain, moving slowly eastwards during the day. During the weekend, these fronts will spread slowly and erratically eastwards across the UK, mostly light rain but occasional heavy, thundery bursts are possible. By Sunday, there are indications that high pressure will build once more from the west, allowing conditions to settle down once again. However, this is a long way off and further details on the weekend's potentially unsettled weather will be in the next weekly forecast update.
