Friday 16/07/04 to Saturday 17/07/04
Low pressure to the west of Scotland on Friday will keep conditions rather unsettled across the UK. Outbreaks of showery rain will affect much of southern England and south Wales through the day, and here it will be rather muggy. The rest of England and Wales will be somewhat brighter, but still with the risk of showers. Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland will have more persistent rain, and with fresh south-westerly winds here it will feel cooler than elsewhere. The low pressure will stay close by on Saturday, but its influence will only extend across Northern Ireland and Scotland. Here, it will be rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times. Across England, Wales and Ireland, there will be plenty of dry weather around, with sunny spells and only the odd shower. Across these areas it will feel pleasantly warm, but in the cloudier, blustery north it will still be disappointingly cool for mid-July.
Sunday 18/07/04 to Monday 19/07/04
The decidedly non-summery weather will continue for many on Sunday, with low pressure never too far away. Southern parts of England should start dry, but it will remain very humid with a threat of thundery rain in the afternoon, especially in the south-east. Much of Ireland and northern England will also have showery rain, some heavy. The best of any brightness will be across Wales, the Midlands and parts of Scotland, although still with showers. On Monday, many northern and western parts of the UK will be a good deal brighter, with sunny spells and only a scattering of showers. England and Wales will have a miserable start though, with heavy rain spreading slowly east. This rain will become confined to eastern parts of England towards evening however. Becoming fresher and cooler everywhere, especially in the south.
Tuesday 20/07/04 to Wednesday 21/07/04
A small ridge of high pressure will settle conditions across Ireland, Wales and south-west England on Tuesday, with a few sunny spell breaking through. Elsewhere, it will be more of the same, as a good deal of cloud gives outbreaks of showery rain, some heavy. The unsettled weather will persist into Wednesday, although there is the hint that southern parts will become drier and warmer during the afternoon. At present, it looks as if the unsettled weather will remain across the north into the weekend, whereas southern parts become more settled. However, this is a long way off, so please check back for further forecast updates.
