Please note that forecasting beyond five days is notoriously difficult, and small errors at short-range can lead to large deviations further in time. Our longer-range forecasts are based on the most accurate weather data available at the time, but alterations may be required as the period progresses. Sunday 16/10/05 to Monday 17/10/05
On Sunday, we're still expecting high pressure to maintain its influence over northern parts of the country, with sunny spells for Scotland and much of northern England. It will be quite warm across the rest of England and Wales, with southerly winds persisting. However, showery bursts of rain will spread northwards during the day, some heavy. Further west across Ireland and Northern Ireland, it will be cooler as a cold front spreads rain across most places from the west during the afternoon. Brisk southerly winds in most places, perhaps strong in the west later. On Monday, the cold front won't have moved far, so it will be another cloudy and cool day across Ireland and Northern Ireland, with persistent rain. This rain will also affect south-west England, much of Wales, and western parts of Scotland. To the east of this, across the rest of England, there will be some sunny spells, but also a few showers, especially across northern England. Eastern Scotland will have similar conditions, although perhaps with more in the way of cloud. A risk of gales later in northern Scotland.

Tuesday 18/10/05 to Wednesday 19/10/05
An area of low pressure will develop across Ireland during Tuesday, enhancing the rainfall that will have been falling since Sunday. Some heavy bursts are likely, perhaps with local flooding in places. The rain will also become more extensive across the Midlands, and southern England, and will continue across Wales. For northern England and Scotland, there will be a few sunny spells once again, but also a fair number of showers. Very mild in the east, but much cooler in the rain further west. A strong south-easterly wind will continue to reach gale force around the coasts of northern and eastern Scotland. By Wednesday, the very autumnal weather will persist across the country, with showers or longer spells of rain. The heaviest and most persistent of the rain will now be across England, Wales and Scotland, with brighter but still showery conditions following on to Ireland and Northern Ireland. Strong south-easterly winds will make it feel cool everywhere, particularly in the north.

Thursday 20/10/05 to Friday 21/10/05
It's currently looking like Thursday may provide a respite across England and Wales, with predominantly dry, if rather cloudy conditions. For the north of England and Scotland though, it will remain cool and windy with outbreaks of rain, heavy over the mountains. There will be a good deal of cloud across Northern Ireland, but some sunny spells should break through from time to time. Similar conditions too across eastern areas of the Irish Republic, but more rain will reach western areas in the afternoon. Confidence for Friday's weather forecast is currently rather low, so please check back for more details in the next forecast update. However, indications are suggesting that a ridge of high pressure will begin to build from the south across Ireland, England and Wales, with sunny spells after morning fog has cleared. Remaining unsettled in Scotland, as brisk easterly winds blow in a lot of cloud, together with patchy rain or drizzle.
