Thursday 17/11/05 to Friday 18/11/05
For much of the UK, Thursday will be a fine late-autumn day, with a narrow ridge of high pressure anchored overhead. Once overnight frost has cleared, England and Wales will be dry with some decent spells of sunshine, although fog patches may be stubborn to clear. Eastern Scotland will also be chilly and fine, but western Scotland will cloud over, with a risk of rain and drizzle by evening. For Ireland and Northern Ireland, it will be a very different day, as south-westerly winds blow in a good deal of cloud. Showery rain will gradually become more persistent as it spreads northeastwards, reaching all parts by evening. The area of high pressure won't be moving too far into Friday, so for a large part of England, Wales and Scotland, it will be another fine and sunny day after a hard frost overnight. Western Scotland will remain generally cloudy, although with a reduced risk of any drizzle. Unfortunately, Ireland and Northern Ireland will hang on to a good deal of cloud and patchy rain and drizzle, but with southerly winds it will be somewhat milder here.
Saturday 19/11/05 to Sunday 20/11/05
It looks like Saturday will see the start of a change for many areas, as high pressure retreats southwards, allowing depressions to run into western Scotland. For central, southern and eastern England, the day will remain bright, but with more cloud around than of late. Cloud and heavy rain will affect Northern Ireland and western Scotland from the word go, and will last for much of the day. Through the morning, this rain will spread east into eastern Scotland, northern England and Wales, as well as the Irish Republic. It will gradually become milder in the north and west, whilst the south and east remain chilly. Sunday is currently shaping up to be a rather complicated day weather-wise, with a slack area of low pressure meandering across the country. The last of the overnight rain, which will have been heavy, should clear from south-east England during the morning. Thereafter, much of the UK and Ireland will have a good deal of cloud, with a scattering of showers. However, there will always be a risk of more persistent rain returning to western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Monday 21/11/05 to Tuesday 22/11/05
On Monday, it will be back to a routine of Atlantic lows spilling their cloud and rain across the country. One particularly deep depression could give gales for a time across Scotland, whilst giving spells of heavy rain here too. Rain will also affect Northern Ireland and northern England, whilst across the rest of Ireland, England and Wales, the rain will be lighter. In fact, eastern parts of England could remain dry and bright all day. Mild for the time of year, with winds from a west to south-westerly direction. On Tuesday, winds look set to turn southerly, ahead of a large area of low pressure, and this will translate into even milder conditions. For England and Wales, the day will start dry with some sunshine. However, cloud and heavy rain further west across Ireland and Scotland will soon sweep eastwards to all areas by the end of the afternoon. So in summary, the outlook is starting crisp and sunny, but will turn milder with rain from the weekend onwards. Please check back for further forecast updates.
