Weekly Outlook : 14/05/03-20/05/03
Largely Unsettled, Rain or Showers for Most

Wednesday 14/05/03 to Thursday 15/05/03
After Tuesday's thundery weather, Wednesday looks set to be much quieter for most. After a chilly night, most parts will awake to sunny spells as a ridge of high pressure crosses from the west. Central and eastern parts will see cloud bubbling up during the afternoon with scattered heavy, thundery showers into the evening. These will be far fewer and further between that of late however, and most parts will end the day fine and sunny. During the evening, high cloud will stream into south-western parts, thickening overnight and into Thursday, but northern parts will have a clear, frosty night. Strengthening southerly winds will spread rain into south-west England and Ireland during Thursday morning, whereas many other parts will dawn dry and bright. This rain, some heavy will reach the Midlands, Wales and Northern Ireland by evening, gales developing through the Irish Sea. Eastern parts remaining dry throughout the night, and turning chilly here.

Friday 16/05/03 to Saturday 17/05/03
Scotland will start Friday cold but sunny. Elsewhere a good deal of cloud with numerous fronts inching their way north-eastwards. Plenty of rain around, some heavy across western parts although winds will be lighter than on Thursday. Brighter weather, with heavy and sometimes thundery showers will spread into southern England during the afternoon, as the rain pushes north, though not reaching Scotland until after dark. Mild in the south but still chilly across the north. Rain continuing through the Irish Sea, Northern Ireland and Northern England into Saturday, Scotland staying mostly dry with scattered showers. Heavy showers interspersed with sunny spells for the rest of England and Wales, although rain will begin to edge south-eastwards again towards evening.

Sunday 18/05/03 to Tuesday 20/05/03
Another lively low pressure system swinging cloud and rain up from the south-west during Sunday, with strong winds developing in the west. Rain also lingering across southern Scotland and Northern England, although gradually dying out. The far north of Scotland again escaping with a dry day, with occasional sunny spells. Into next week, the picture remains unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain. Some of the showers will again be thundery, and become slow moving in the south by Tuesday. Conversely, any sunny spells will also last longer, so the south will become quite warm at times. Remaining chilly in the far north.
