Wednesday 18/08/04 to Thursday 19/08/04
The deep area of low pressure, forecast to be to the west of the UK on Wednesday, is currently holding firm. The depression will give a strong southerly flow across the UK, bringing some very warm air across central and eastern areas. However, despite the warmth, it will be very unsettled, with showers or longer spells of rain everywhere. Some of the rain will be very heavy indeed, with the risk of thunder in places. Perhaps the extreme south-east will see the best of any sunshine. On Thursday, the area of low pressure will have moved directly over the UK, spelling out yet more very unsettled weather. Nowhere will be immune from some heavy, thundery downpours, although as the low pulls away to the east, northerly winds will bring fresher, brighter weather across Northern Ireland. These winds may reach gale force around some coasts, as will westerly winds across the south, and southerly winds across eastern parts.

Friday 20/08/04 Saturday 21/08/04
The area of low pressure will continue to migrate into the North Sea on Friday, encouraging a fresh northerly wind to race across the entire UK. It won't be a particularly chilly wind though, and with more in the way of sunshine around it will feel quite pleasant. However, much of central England and Wales will be cloudy with spells of rain, these only slowly easing away eastwards through the afternoon. Elsewhere, it will be fairly sunny with just a scattering of showers. Yet more areas of low pressure will develop over the UK on Saturday, giving further spells of rain. The heaviest, most persistent rain will be across England and Wales, as well as much of Ireland. The best chance of seeing any sunshine will be across Scotland and Northern Ireland. One consolation will be a generally light wind across most parts.

Sunday 22/08/04 Monday 23/08/04
Widespread, and often heavy rain will persist across a the bulk of England and Wales on Sunday, and there will be a good deal of mist and low cloud around. Conditions will be much brighter across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with these sunny spells transferring to Ireland later in the day. On Monday, conditions look set to take a turn for the worse once again, with more wind and rain sweeping across much of the country. At present, there is no end in sight to the generally unsettled, and at times, wet weather. However, please check back for more detailed forecasts on next weekend, and into the week after.
