Friday 19/03/04 to Saturday 20/03/04
Last week's cold snap will seem a world away, when compared to the weather across the UK on Friday, as everywhere will be very mild with spring-like temperatures. It will also be very unsettled however, with strong south-westerly winds, particularly in the south-west. Scotland and Northern Ireland will have a bright day, but with blustery showers. After a brief dry spell, further heavy rain will sweep across Ireland, Wales and much of England in the afternoon. Saturday will be another very mild day, with strong to gale force south-westerly winds continuing. Any brighter weather in eastern England will soon fade, as outbreaks of rain, often heavy, sweep in from the Atlantic. There will be a good deal of mist and low cloud over any high ground, and around western coasts. Western parts of Ireland should become brighter but slightly colder towards late afternoon.
Sunday 21/03/04 to Monday 22/03/04
The UK will stay very windy on Sunday, although with winds turning to a more north-westerly direction, it will feel somewhat colder. Much of England and Wales will have another cloudy day with spells of rain, although these will gradually become confined to south-east England by evening. The rest of Scotland and Ireland will have some sunshine, but also a fair number of heavy, blustery showers, turning wintry over the Scottish mountains later. Everywhere will be cooler still on Monday, although with the wind easing it won't feel too bad. After a bright start across the mainland UK, cloud and rain which will already affect Ireland during the morning, will spread eastwards. Once again, some of the rain will be heavy at times, although sunshine and showers will return to the far west later.
Tuesday 23/03/04 to Wednesday 24/03/04
On Tuesday, any remaining outbreaks of rain will clear away from eastern parts of England, then much of England, Wales and Ireland will have a dry afternoon with some decent sunny spells. Northerly winds will develop for a time however, making it feel rather cold. These winds will also feed showers into parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the potential for some wintry conditions over the highest ground. By Wednesday, winds are expected to swing back in from the west once more. These will give milder temperatures, but also thicker cloud and spells of rain. The rain will arrive in Ireland and Northern Ireland during the morning, spreading to all but eastern Scotland and eastern England during the afternoon.
