Monday 19/04/04 to Tuesday 20/04/04
Most places can expect to see some sunny spells on Monday, especially across central and eastern parts of England and Scotland. Scattered showers will already affect western parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and during the afternoon these will spread to other western parts of England, Wales and Scotland. Some of the showers will be heavy, with a few cracks of thunder thrown in for good measure. Towards evening, thicker cloud and heavy rain will reach the south-west. On Tuesday, Scotland and northern parts of England will have some sunshine, but also a fair number of heavy showers. For the rest of the UK and Ireland, it will be much more unsettled with predominantly cloudy skies and spells of rain. The rain will be heavy at times, and will become slow moving thus giving some upland parts of Ireland and Wales some high rainfall totals. Winds will be generally light, although will freshen through the English Channel for a time.
Wednesday 21/04/04 to Thursday 22/04/04
The thoroughly unsettled weather looks set to continue into Wednesday, although weather fronts will never be fast-moving, so some places will be wet for much of the day. The heaviest of the rain on Wednesday will be across Wales, northern England and southern parts of Scotland. Northern Ireland will also be rather wet at first, but elsewhere there should be some sunny spells, but still with plenty of heavy, thundery showers. Winds will again be mostly light, but becoming strong in the west later. Persistent and sometimes heavy rain will continue in the south-east of England for much of Thursday, perhaps with the odd rumble of thunder. Showery rain will also affect north-western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland where it will be rather windy. Elsewhere, it will be another day of sunshine and scattered showers, the showers mostly in the west where some will again be heavy.
Friday 23/04/04 to Saturday 24/04/04
England and Wales will have a rather better day on Friday, with any early rain clearing to leave plenty of dry and bright weather. For much of Ireland and Scotland however, the showers will continue, ganging up to give some longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures will be around average everywhere, but feeling rather cool in the north-west with strong to gale force westerly winds. The weekend currently looks like maintaining the week's theme, and that is unsettled with rain. Western parts will see the rain first during Saturday morning, and this will spread eratically eastwards to remaining parts during Saturday afternoon and overnight into Sunday. Showers look set to follow the rain into western parts later on Sunday. Current confidence of this unsettled regime is fairly high at present, but please check back for further forecast updates.
