Wednesday 15/10/03 to Thursday 16/10/03
Rather cloudy at first on Wednesday across parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland, but this will gradually clear away during the morning. Elsewhere, it will be fine with plenty of sunny spells or unbroken sunshine. The exception will be coasts of north-east England and eastern Scotland, where there will be low cloud and fog blown in off the sea by fresh easterly winds. The winds will be strongest in the south, making it feel very chilly. Overnight, many places becoming dry with ground frost in shetlered parts. This will lead into a fine Thursday morning, with sunshine across the board. The afternoon will continue in much the same way, with unbroken sunshine for many. Again, north-eastern coasts will be plagued by mist and low cloud, and the chilly easterly winds will take the edge off the temperatures.
Friday 17/10/03 to Saturday 18/10/03
Friday will begin much as Thursday, with sunshine for all parts. It will be a rather chilly start however, with ground and even air frost likely in some parts of Scotland. The afternoon will continue fine, with long sunny spells. The winds will be strong in southern England and Ireland, with the chance of gale force gusts around the coasts. The east coast will one again suffer from low cloud, although with lighter winds eastern Scotland should be a little brighter. Overnight, clear spells will allow it to turn chilly once more, with frost in places. Very little change once again on Saturday, with a glorious day in prospect and no sign of any welcome rain. The winds in the south will ease and towards the end of the day will turn more north-easterly across northern parts. At the same time here, cloud will thicken across Shetland during the evening.
Sunday 19/10/03 to Tuesday 21/10/03
Sunday will start to see the beginnings of a change across the UK, as our resident high pressure begins to weaken. During the day, cloud will thicken across northern Scotland with the risk of rain from time to time. Likewise, cloudier skies are expected across southern England and Ireland, with some showery rain spreading into the south-west. In between another mostly dry day with sunny spells. The outlook for early next week is very important, as at present there is the risk of much colder weather spreading across northern parts. This is the most likely scenario at present, with low pressure to the east of the UK drawing in cold north-easterly winds, with some wintry weather likely over highland Scotland for Monday and Tuesday. More detail on this situation in the next update.
