Tuesday 20/09/05 to Wednesday 21/09/05
A spell of increasingly patchy rain and drizzle will clear eastwards during Tuesday morning, leaving most of England and Wales dry with sunny spells during Tuesday afternoon. There will also be some sunshine across Scotland and Northern Ireland too, but with a fair number of blustery showers in western areas. Perhaps the sunniest conditions will be across the Irish Republic, and in light winds it will feel pleasantly warm here. High pressure should hold on long enough to give central and southern parts of England another dry day on Wednesday, with some sunshine. Otherwise, weather fronts will spread cloud and rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland during the morning, and this will reach northern England, Wales and the rest of Ireland during the afternoon. Southerly winds will become strong in many western areas during the day, but as a result it will become considerably milder.
Thursday 22/09/05 to Friday 23/09/05
On Thursday, a deep area of low pressure to the north of Scotland will dominate the weather across the UK. A spell of heavy rain will cross much of Scotland and England during the morning, clearing into the North Sea during the afternoon. Behind this, there may be some sunny spells for a time, but further heavy showers across Ireland and Northern Ireland will race eastwards into Wales and south-west England in the afternoon. Westerly winds will be fresh to strong, perhaps with gales around Irish Sea coasts for a time. This area of low pressure will still be firmly in charge during Friday, and as a result there will be plenty of heavy showers or longer spells of rain right across the UK. North-westerly winds will reach gale force in western Scotland and Northern Ireland through the day, making it feel cold. The best of any sunny spells will be across southern parts of Ireland.
Saturday 24/09/05 to Sunday 25/09/05
Saturday is expected to remain unsettled and windy across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England. As well as the fresh winds, there will be a good deal of cloud and outbreaks of rain, heavy at times. Further south across the rest of England and Wales, together with southern parts of Ireland, a small ridge of high pressure is expected to give a drier day, with occasional sunny spells. South-east England may stay dry with some sunny spells even into Sunday, but elsewhere weather fronts will spread another band of rain south-eastwards across all areas. The rain will again be heavy, especially across Ireland, western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Turning rather cool behind the rain, as north-westerly winds start to dig in. As ever, please check back for further forecast updates.
