Saturday 20/03/04 to Sunday 21/03/04
Many places will have another wet, and in some parts, very windy day on Saturday. Heavy rain will sweep across much of England and Wales during the morning, with further wet weather spreading in during the afternoon. Strong westerly winds will reach gale force along the south coast of England, parts of south Wales and southern parts of Ireland. For Northern Ireland and Scotland, it will stay bright and breezy, but with abundant showers, heavy and thundery at times. Much of the UK will be brighter on Sunday, with some sunny spells for all. Heavy showers will develop however, firstly across western Scotland and Northern Ireland, but with more organised troughs crossing England and Wales in the afternoon. Some of the showers will produce local torrential downpours, with hail and thunder likely, together with very gusty winds. The best of the sunshine will be across eastern England. Westerly winds will have eased, but will still be fresh to strong.
Monday 22/03/04 to Tuesday 23/03/04
At present, conditions look set to become a good deal colder on Monday, as fresh northerly winds plunge southwards across the country. Many parts of England and Wales will be dry with sunny spells, but showers will affect Northern Ireland, western parts of Ireland and much of Scotland, becoming increasingly wintry with snow over the hills. Towards evening, significant snowfalls are likely over northern high ground, with snow showers filtering into north-east England. Tuesday will stay rather cold, with more hail, sleet and snow showers across Northern Ireland, north-east England, and northern and eastern Scotland. The rest of England, Wales and much of Ireland will stay mostly dry with some good sunny spells, but it will feel cold everywhere in the stiff northerly wind.
Wednesday 24/03/04 to Thursday 25/03/04
The northerly winds will ease somewhat during Wednesday, but will continue to give wintry showers across eastern Scotland and eastern parts of England. Elsewhere it will be mostly dry with sunny spells, but during the afternoon thicker cloud will spread across much of Ireland, bringing rain in from the west later. Feeling slightly milder with lighter winds. On Thursday, a westerly regime looks set to return, giving all places fresh westerly winds, and outbreaks of rain. The rain will affect western parts at first, but will rapidly spread eastwards during the afternoon. Feeling much milder, although not feeling quite so pleasant in the wind.
