Wednesday 18/06/03 to Thursday 19/06/03
A dry start to Wednesday for much of mainland UK, with sunny spells from time to time. Across Ireland however, thickening cloud will spread rain from the west during the morning, some heavy. Into the afternoon, this rain will push into western Scotland, Wales and western England as cloud increases further east. Winds will become strong across many western parts, touching gale force in the north-west. Remaining warm in the south-east, turning cooler elsewhere. Overnight, the rain will continue westwards, but always very light and patchy in the south. By Thursday, most of Ireland, Scotland and Northern England will be in a bright but showery airflow, some of the showers rather heavy. Central and southern parts of England and Wales will remain cloudy, with spells of mostly light rain. It will feel muggy here, particularly in the far south-east, but fresher elsewhere.
Friday 20/06/03 to Saturday 21/06/03
A straightforward run of west to north-westerly winds by Friday, helping to push remaining cloud away from southern England. Most parts then dry and bright with high pressure close by, and feeling warm in the south. Winds will be strong across the north, driving occasional showers from the north-west. South-west Ireland will also turn cloudy and wet during the afternoon. This cloud will filter into south-west England overnight, with a little patchy rain at times. During Saturday, much of Ireland, western England and Wales will be cloudy, with sporadic outbreaks of light rain. Elsewhere, staying fine and bright with some warm sunshine, although the chance of a shower across Shetland. Winds generally easing across all parts.
Sunday 22/06/03 to Tuesday 23/06/03
Southern parts looks set to become unsettled, but very warm during Sunday, as fronts push up from the south. There will be some sunshine, but always the threat of occasional rain. Showers will also develop over high ground elsewhere, but most parts remaining dry and fairly bright. Into the new week these fronts will spread further north, allowing south-westerly winds to follow on. These will dominate the weather during Monday and Tuesday, bringing in showers to western parts, but allowing many eastern parts to remain mostly dry and sunny. Confidence is fairly high that this scenario will dominate through much of the week, with winds swinging more to the west if anything. Further detail on this in the next update.
