Becoming Cloudy With Rain Over Weekend. High Pressure & Settled Weather Returning Next Week.

Friday 17/09/03 to Saturday 18/09/03
A rather dull, misty start to Friday in many parts, with coastal fog in places. During the morning, skies will become somewhat brighter across central and south-eastern England with some sunny spells - warm where these occur. For much of Wales, Northern England and Ireland staying cloudy for much of the day with patchy light rain over the hills. Northern Ireland and Scotland will once again see spells of heavier rain, although confined to the far north by evening. Cooler in the north, although most parts staying mild overnight. By Saturday morning, somewhat drier and brighter weather will have spread to many parts of north-west Britain, although a few scattered showers too. A cloudier band of weather will persist across Wales, central and northern England and parts of Ireland. This will produce more organised rain during the afternoon. Staying dry in the south-east of England, with occasional bright spells and turning warm.

Sunday 19/09/03 to Monday 20/09/03
Sunday will see a reverse in weather fortunes across the UK, as the more unsettled weather spreads across southern parts. Much of Scotland and Northern Ireland will have a dry day, with some sunny spells after a chilly morning. Weather fronts to the south-west will spread cloud and rain into Ireland, Wales and south-west England in the morning, crossing remaining parts of England during the afternoon. The heaviest rain always in the west, with some eastern parts remaining dry. By the new week, cloud and rain will be most prominent in the north and east of the country, becoming mostly light and patchy by this time as high pressure builds from the west. By Monday afternoon, many parts will become drier with bright spells around. Staying rather warm in southern parts, and after another chilly start temperatures will be around average elsewhere.

Tuesday 21/09/03 to Thursday 23/09/03
Mid-week will see high pressure building across many parts of the country. This will translate into warm, sunny days but clear, chilly nights. Towards the latter part of Wednesday, cloud will increase across Northern Ireland, Scotland and western parts of the UK mainland. This will threaten light rain for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday, whilst eastern parts remain dry, bright and warm. Further details on next week in the next forecast update.
