Saturday 18/10/03 to Sunday 19/10/03
It will be a chilly start across much of the UK on Saturday, with a frost in Scotland and patchy fog elsewhere. This will clear quickly during the day, and then the majority of the country will be dry with plenty of sunshine, unbroken in places. The exceptions will be north-east England, where low cloud will continue to hug the coasts. It may become a little more cloudy in southern England, and later the far north of Scotland as well. Feeling cool, but the chilly wind should ease. Another clear, chilly night for most, but a band of cloud and patchy rain will spread south across Scotland and Northern England. During Sunday morning, this cloud and mostly light rain will spread south across much of Northern Ireland, into Ireland, Wales and the Midlands during the afternoon. South of this, there will be sunny spells and it will stay dry. Across Scotland however, freshening northerly winds will bring showers, especially to the north and east where some may turn wintry.
Monday 20/10/03 to Tuesday 21/04/03
Remaining cloud and rain should clear southern parts during Monday morning, then all parts will be bright with sunny spells. There will be a stiff northerly wind however, and this will bring showers to much of Scotland and eastern England. The showers will be of snow over high ground, with hail and sleet to lower levels in the north. A few showers may filter south across Ireland and other western parts, but it should stay mostly dry and bright here. It will remain showery in the north and east overnight, but becoming drier elsewhere. On Tuesday, many northern and eastern areas will be unsettled with further showers. Showers will become wintry, with hail and sleet even at lower levels, with significant snowfall over the highest ground. Western and southern parts have the best chance of staying dry, with good sunny spells. It will feel very cold, particularly in the stiff northerly winds, touching gale force later across Scotland.
Wednesday 22/04/03 to Friday 24/04/03
The latter part of the week is set to be very unsettled, with strong winds across many parts. On Wednesday, heavy rain and showers will be widespread, with snow at times, more especially over Scotland and over the hills elsewhere. Winds will touch gale force in places, although there will be some brighter spells. Thursday will be a similar day, with rain or wintry showers and feeling very cold, but the winds will ease somewhat. At present, it does look as if Friday and the weekend will gradually become less cold, although it is expected to remain generally unsettled with low pressure close by.
