Forecast valid for Sunday 26/05/02 to Saturday 01/06/02 TOI Thursday 23/05/02 1900 BST. Based on MRF, ECMWF, UKMO, and ENS labelled model.
Moderate confidence at 60% that after another unsettled beginning the weather will at last turn warmer and settled from the south later in the week
Sunday to Tuesday will continue to be cool and changeable with sunny intervals and showers in all areas. Some showers will be heavy and accompanied at times by hail and thunder. In the south some longer periods of rain are also likely.
However, from Wednesday onwards pressure will build in the south and here it will turn mainly dry and become warm by weekend with maximum temperatures into the low twenties centigrade. This warm and settled weather will spread slowly north, although western Scotland and northern Ireland look like continuing unsettled with more rain at times as Atlantic fronts brush by to the northwest. Eastern Scotland will have more in the way of sunshine and will be warmer.
The chance of 4 completely dry days beginning Wednesday is as follows:
SW England 50%
SE England 60%
Wales, Midlands, and East Anglia 40%
Northern England 30
Eastern Scotland 20%
Northern Ireland and western Scotland 10%
Outlook for the following week with moderate confidence is for the weather to warm and settled in all areas.
