Monday 30/08/04 to Tuesday 31/08/04
On Monday, as low pressure moves from Scotland into the North Sea, strong north-westerly winds will affect parts of Scotland and north-east England, touching gale force along the east coast. As well as the wind, there is the risk of blustery showers, especially in north-east Scotland. Across the rest of the UK and Ireland, there will be a fair amount of cloud, but despite the Bank Holiday tradition, it looks like being dry with some decent sunny spells. Feeling warm where these persist, together with light winds. By Tuesday, the low pressure to the east will be well out of the way, and high pressure will become dominant across the UK. This will translate into plenty of fine weather, with lots of sunny spells. Once again, the best of these will be across England and Wales, and also much of Ireland. Across Scotland and Northern Ireland, there will be rather more of a breeze, and cloud will thicken towards evening threatening outbreaks of rain.
Wednesday 01/09/04 Thursday 02/09/04
On Wednesday, the high pressure looks set to hold across southern and eastern parts of England, where more warm sunshine will develop. However, low pressure will be getting nearer out in the Atlantic, and strong southerly winds will slowly increase across Ireland, Northern Ireland and around Irish Sea coasts. At the same time, weather fronts will slowly move eastwards, bringing heavy and thundery rain across much of Ireland, and into western parts of England, Wales and Scotland. By Thursday, this heavy rain will have swept across the rest of England, clearing into the North Sea during the morning. All parts will then be in a more unsettled westerly airflow, with bands of showery rain crossing the country. Some of the rain will be heavy, particularly across Northern Ireland and western Scotland where the winds may touch gale force around the coast. There should be some decent spells of sunshine between the showers, but it will be feeling cooler.
Friday 03/09/04 Saturday 04/09/04
By Friday, conditions will begin to turn more unsettled in the south and east once again. As sunny spells develop, southerly winds are expected to bring some very warm air to these parts of the country. However, weather fronts will move in elsewhere, bringing with them outbreaks of showery rain. The heaviest of this will be across Ireland and Northern Ireland, transferring into western Scotland and north-west England in the afternoon. On Saturday, there is the potential for some very warm air to affect southern parts of England, together with some sunshine. Elsewhere, there will be a good deal of cloud and rain, some heavy with thunderstorms breaking out. This same split in the weather looks set to continue into Sunday, but as ever, please check back for further forecast updates.
