Weekly Outlook : 31/05/04-05/06/04
Goodbye summer! Hello wind and rain!

Monday 31/05/04 to Tuesday 01/06/04
Bank Holiday Monday looks set to live up to its British tradition of being very unsettled. Weather fronts will move from the Atlantic to affect most places through the day, bringing outbreaks of rain. The rain will be heaviest across Wales, together with western parts of England and Scotland during the morning. These will transfer to central and eastern areas through the afternoon after a bright morning here. Much of Ireland will brighten up after a wet start with a mixture of sunny spells and blustery showers. Feeling rather fresh with strong and gusty south-westerly winds everywhere. Low pressure will dominate the UK's weather into Tuesday, with heavy showers or longer outbreaks of rain everywhere. The best of any sunny spells will be across southern and western parts, and it will feel warm where these last. Elsewhere under the cloud and rain, it will continue to feel rather fresh in a strong and blustery west to north-westerly winds.

Wednesday 02/06/04 to Thursday 03/06/04
Eastern parts of both England and Scotland will stay unsettled on Wednesday, with predominantly cloudy skies and outbreaks of showery rain. For the rest of the UK, apart from a few scattered showers, most places will have a brighter day with some warm sunny spells. The skies across Northern Ireland will become rather hazy during the afternoon, as cloud and occasional rain reaches western parts of Ireland after a bright start. Winds will be lighter, except in the east where a fresh northerly will make it feel chilly. On Thursday, Scotland and Northern Ireland will have overcast skies and outbreaks of rain, always heaviest and most persistent over western coasts and mountains. The rest of the UK and Ireland will have sunny spells and scattered showers, most of the showers towards the west. Feeling warm in sheltered eastern parts, but temperatures will be around average elsewhere with moderate westerly winds.

Friday 04/06/04 to Saturday 05/06/04
At present, the forecast for Friday shows no return of summer, as low pressure continues to throw bands of rain across most places. Once again, the heaviest rain will be reserved for Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England, although even southern parts will have some wet weather. With fresh west to south-westerly winds, it will always remain fairly warm, although in the windier west it won't feel particularly pleasant. "Unsettled" sums up the weekend's weather, with some heavy rain around giving the risk of localised flooding in one or two spots.
