Monday 03/10/05 to Tuesday 04/10/05
The new week will kick off to a glorious start across England, Wales and the Irish Republic, as high pressure dominates the weather during Monday. Overnight mist and fog will readily clear, to leave most places dry with sunny spells. For Northern Ireland and Scotland, it will also be mainly dry and bright, but southwesterly winds will increase. Towards evening, there will be a risk of cloudier skies and rain reaching the far northwest of Scotland. A fairly pleasant day in the sunshine, but feeling cool in the wind further north. The high pressure won't move far into Tuesday, so another fine and sunny day is on the cards for England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. However, some overnight fog may be slow to clear in one or two prone locations. Eastern parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland will also have some sunshine, but with more in the way of cloud too. Western areas will have generally cloudy skies, and this will be thick enough for light rain and drizzle. The south-westerly wind will become strong here later, whilst winds will remain light across the rest of the UK.

Wednesday 05/10/05 to Thursday 06/10/05
The high pressure across England and Wales will lose its grip on Wednesday, allowing low pressure over the continent to push fronts northwards. After a bright start, central and southern England will turn cloudier with showery rain from time to time. The rest of England and Wales should remain dry, but with more cloud than during the first half of the week. A reversal of fortunes across Ireland and Scotland though, with the south-westerly winds easing, and any drizzle giving way to partly cloudy skies and some sunny spells. Detail for Thursday is currently rather uncertain, but charts are indicating a brief return to summer for England, Wales and Scotland. Warm air is expected to move up from the south, ahead of a cold front over Ireland. In this warm air will be some sunny spells, but also an increasing risk of thundery showers breaking out later. Winds could reach gale force through the Irish Sea. A very different day across Ireland and Northern Ireland though, as it will be overcast with spells of heavy rain. Feeling rather cool here later.

Friday 07/10/05 to Saturday 08/10/05
During Friday, an increasingly deep depression to the west of Ireland will start to take over. Any brighter conditions in eastern England at first will soon disappear, as cloud and rain move in from the west. This rain will affect the rest of the UK and Ireland throughout the day, and accompanied by fresh to strong southerly winds, it will feel rather unpleasant. Towards the end of the afternoon, it will turn cooler and more showery in western areas. This depression won't be going very far during Saturday, or indeed, during Sunday either. As a result, current weekend indications are for very wet and windy weather right across the country. Where it's not raining persistently, there will be heavy and possibly squally showers.
